New church/state conflict involving Illinois Conference Minister and Trinity UCC surfaces
Monday, March 17, 2008
Rev. Dr. Jane Fisler Hoffman, the former Illinois Conference Minister and current Interim Conference Minister of the Southern California Nevada Conference, is embroiled in a fresh church/state conflict involving Trinity UCC and Barack Obama's campaign. The new controversy involves a pair of Obama campaign video's on Trinity's "About Us" web page that feature Hoffman. The video's were posted on You Tube by the Obama campaign and make clear references to Obama's campaign website (faith.BarackObama.com) at the end.IRS regulations do not permit tax-exempt religious institutions to promote a candidate on their web site or in any publication. Last Monday, a Wall Street Journal article questioned whether endorsements from the pulpit by Trinity ministers Jeremiah Wright and Otis Moss III also violated IRS regulations. The national office of the United Church of Christ is currently under investigation by the IRS forexclusively promoting Barack Obama as a candidate for President.

Was Obama trying to stop Obama when he condemned the remarks of Jeremiah Wright?
Or was he just conspiring to destroy his congregation?
